IT Training NIIT in pact with UK university Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 22 IT training company NIIT today announced it has entered into an alliance with Open University of the UK to offer degree programmes to its students in six countries. "We are starting with these six countries and our intention is to take it to all the 30 countries that we operate in," the NIIT Chairman and co-founder, Mr Rajendra S Pawar, said at a conference here. NIIT students in six countries Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Indonesia, Nigeria and Vietnam would be offered B.Sc (Honours) Computing and its Practice degree, in the first phase. The Open University degree programme builds upon the study that the students would have completed with NIIT. The programme would be conducted by NIIT faculty specially trained on the Open University's curriculum. The students would be examined and certified directly by the Open University's Examination and Assessment Board. Students, who have completed two-year programme with NIIT, would be offered the degree for which they will have to spend another year to clear the exams held by the Open University. The programme will begin in three of the six countries selected by April 2006. NIIT said that once the regulatory environment on functioning of foreign universities in India became clear, the programme could start here as well.
