Seamen's union defers strike plan

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Nov. 24

THE Forward Seamen's Union of India (FSUI) has deferred its strike planned for Friday, until December 13, a union official said.

This follows a directive by the Bombay High Court on Thursday after hearing a petition filed by shipping companies against the proposed strike.

The FSUI had planned to go on a day's strike on November 25 demanding restoration of the alleged Rs 100-crore loss suffered by the Seamen's Provident Fund in securities trading in 2002.

The Court directed the Directorate General of Shipping to file an affidavit on the matter before December 6.
