AP CM offers Tada-Satyavedu region for textile parks

TADA, in Chittoor district, that straddles the Tamil Nadu border turns out to be the ace up the sleeve for the Andhra Pradesh Government.
After offering the Chennai advantage to Volkswagen, the State Government is now trying to sell the same idea to the textile and garment sectors.
Addressing the CII conference on `Textiles forum - Emerging opportunities and the road ahead' here on Thursday, the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, asked the industry to exploit the proximity of Tada-Satyavedu region to Chennai to get the best of both worlds. The Government had allotted 10 acres each to Gokuldas Exports Pvt Ltd and Shahi Exports Pvt Ltd at IDA Nacharam to set up their units. Each of the units would create about 3,000 jobs.
The Chief Minister said the Government had appointed Industrial Leasing and Financial Services Ltd (IL&FS) as the nodal agency for preparation of detailed project reports for setting up integrated textile parks in the State.
The consulting company would implement the projects from the concept stage to financial closure.
It would implement the Rs 50-crore Hyderabad Hi-tech Weaving Park at Kothur in Mahboobnagar district.
Referring to the industry concerns on labour laws, the Chief Minister said that the Government is working on flexible labour laws to enable exporting units located in the SEZs to meet their deadlines.
He regretted that the industry was not forthcoming in modernising the ginning units. The obsolete technology being used in these units reduced the quality of the cotton processed. "Not even one per cent of the mills are modernised," he said, appealing to the AP Cotton Association to take up the issue seriously.
