Railways Rlys to have warehousing complex in Hyderabad Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Nov. 24. A MODERN Railside Warehousing Complex (RWC) will be built at an investment of Rs 5 crore at the Sanathnagar goods shed in Hyderabad. The project, formally launched on Thursday by the General Manager, South Central Railway (SCR), Mr D.N. Mathur, has been taken up under a joint venture between the Railways and the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC). Expected to be completed in one year, the modern godown is spread over 630 metres, which is equivalent to a full-length train. It will have a capacity to store 15,000 tonnes. Mr N. K. Choubey, Managing Director, CWC, said the RWC would bring down the cost of logistics for all commodities coming to the Sanathnagar shed. Customers can store their consignments and plan the final distribution from the warehouse itself. Mr Mathur said plans are afoot to set up similar warehousing facilities at Karimnagar, Jaggaiahpet, Warangal, Bhongir, Ghatkesar, Peddapalli, Lingampalli and Cherlapally. These would be set up under public-private partnership. The Secunderabad Division with originating goods earnings of Rs 1,433 crore would provide value-added services to customers who are unloading an average of 45-50 rakes per month. During 2004-05, Sanathnagar goods shed dealt with 297 cement rakes, and 152 fertiliser and 58 general commodity rakes.
