Hyderabad , Nov. 24

EMPLOYEES of HSBC's Group Services centre in Hyderabad and L&T Ltd, have come together to construct a building for the Madhapur Mandal School in Hyderabad for disadvantaged children.

Built at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, the Madhapur Mandal School has been transformed into a large district school. Run out of a two-room building, the school now operates from a 7,750 sq.ft. building consisting of 10 classrooms, a computer laboratory, a library, a staff room and a play area for students.

The building benefits from necessary support infrastructure, including a regular water supply.

The Chairman of HSBC Group, Sir John Bond, inaugurated this school on Thursday and said, "This building is a testament to the determination of my colleagues in Hyderabad. A good education is a transforming experience, and we hope that this school will provide young people in this area with the chance for a better future."

The Community Committee of HSBC service centre in Hyderabad adopted the Madhapur Mandal School, a Government-run school for underprivileged children in early 2005.

At that time, the school did not have proper infrastructure or teaching aids and was unable to generate a regular student turnout.

The school now is attended by some 460 disadvantaged children living in and around the Madhapur village.
