Kochi port receives largest dry bulk parcel

Our Bureau

Kochi , Nov. 24

THE Kochi port has received the largest-ever dry bulk parcel of 50,000 tonnes of rock phosphate on m.v. Tera, which arrived from the Casablanca port in Morocco.

This surpasses the previous record of largest dry bulk vessel of 44,600 tonnes that arrived here in January 2003.

m.v. Tera is one of the large dimensioned vessels calling at Kochi with 225 metres length, gross registered tonnage of 35,103 and beam width of 32.2 metres, a press release issue here said.

In its endeavour to reach new heights in cargo handling, the port recently succeeded in achieving a record productivity per gang of 1,250.88 tonnes while discharging zinc concentrate between September 29 and October 2.

The earlier record was 1,111.11 tonnes recorded in December 2004.

The port has been striving to provide better services by constantly improving its systems for enhancing customer satisfaction.

Apart from getting a private operator for providing container-handling facilities of international standards, the port is keen on improving bulk and break bulk handling facilities.
