Wipro positions honey as breakfast food

Chennai , Nov. 25

WIPRO Consumer Care and Lighting, a division of IT major Wipro Ltd, has launched lemon honey and positioned it as breakfast food.

Mr Nagender Arya, General Manager - New Business Development, Wipro Consumer Care, said that in India, honey has been consumed for its medicinal properties. The company has come out with lemon and ginger honey, which would go well with bread and other breakfast food like dosa.

In India, the per capita consumption of honey is low and the market size is about Rs 160 crore. Large quantities are exported.

Mr Arya said honey is collected from the Himalayas and from the Sunderbans. It is then processed at a collection centre at Rajpura in Punjab. It goes through 18 filtration processes to ensure purity.

The lemon flavour was launched after a two-year research among children. The khatta meetha taste has gone down well with them, he said.
