InfoUSA plans to expand operations

Bangalore , Nov. 25

NASDAQ-listed InfoUSA, vendor of proprietary business and consumer databases, plans to expand its compilation operations in India.

The company plans to set up a back-office team consisting of 40-50 business editors at Gurgaon soon, said Mr Kanwar K.S. Jamwal, country manager, InfoUSA.

The business editors will be responsible for gathering information from corporate Web sites, edit millions of business descriptions, executive biographies and other important information of the businesses, Mr Jamwal said.

The editorial team would also refine and edit research reports for its other divisions such as OneSource among others from India, he said.

However, Mr Jamwal clarified that with the setting up of a captive unit in India, its outsourcing contracts with several vendors here would not be affected.

Vendors such as Datamatics, Innodata, 24/7 among others provide outsourcing services to InfoUSA.

Meanwhile, OneSource, the division of InfoUSA, plans to tap the Indian market aggressively with its database and business intelligence information services. OneSource, which provides integrated business information services on companies around the world, is targeting Indian companies, which seek to do business globally.

Mr Paul Brown, Vice-President, OneSource, said the company offered updated business information of over 30 million companies around the world through its Web-based solutions. By leveraging OneSource's business intelligence and information services, management professionals would be able to make key decisions quickly, he said.

OneSource has a customer base of some 20 companies in India, which it expects to more than double by end-2006. "We see a three-fold revenue increase from the Indian market by end-2006," Mr Paul said.

OneSource's customers in India include ICICI Bank, E&Y, Ranbaxy, NIIT among others.
