Events India Economic Summit to draw over 600 participants Our Bureau
New Delhi , Nov. 26 THE 21st India Economic Summit will be held in the Capital from November 27-29. It will be organised jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the World Economic Forum. The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, will address the summit at the closing session of the annual event, while the Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, will be inaugurating it. The summit will bring together over 600 participants from more than 400 companies, of which 200 companies are from 33 other countries. It will provide a platform to address and assess the growth experience of India under the theme, `A Young and Resurgent India: Its Impact on Regional and Global Strategies'. The Prime Minister will also present the first Indian social entrepreneur of the year award, instituted by the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship. The award recognises outstanding contribution in the field of social development. Speaking at the pre-summit press conference, the CII President, Mr Y.C. Deveshwar, said, "The India Economic Summit 2005 marks the commencement of the third decade of partnership between the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry and is a testimony to the growing world confidence in India." "The perception about India has changed dramatically among the investing community. What were considered weaknesses in the past have now turned into competitive advantages such as the democratic system and a very young population," said Ms Colette Mathur, Director for India, World Economic Forum.
