Local fishermen's demand for a fishing harbour at Chellanam in Kochi is yet to materialise despite many years of protest. The State Government is awaiting a survey report from IIT-Madras for starting work on the project. Fishermen in Chellanam now operate their boats from Mattancherry, about 20 km north of their village.
