Consolidation seen in global apparel outsourcing centres

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Nov. 27

WHAT do top brands look at when they want to outsource their production needs? Delivery, quality, price or corporate compliance?

There has to be a perfect balance of all these, said Mr Atul Ujagar, Country Manager of Nike Inc (India Liaison Office).

Addressing the CII conference on `Textile Forum - the emerging opportunities and the road ahead' here, he said the relationship between the company and the one that implemented the outsourcing job has changed significantly from a buyer-seller tactical relationship. Now, the bond between the two is a sustainable partnership and collaboration.

Mr Ujagar foresaw a consolidation of apparel outsourcing centres across the globe as the quota regime had gone. India, China and Pakistan are expected to gain significantly in the post quota regime, while some others may lose out.

The focus will be more on fabrics manufacturing closer to the needle as companies plan consolidation and rationalisation of their activity.

Countries need to think about ways to achieve vertical integration of various jobs that went into the completion of outsourcing assignments.
