Power cuts

This is with reference to the report, "You may soon be compensated for power-cuts", (Business Line, November 26).

For those of us who are gnashing the teeth at the shabby service almost all State Electricity Boards have been offering their consumers for many years now, this is indeed sweet news.

Imagine a situation when each day innumerable interruptions occur in power supply lasting from a few minutes to hours and the consumer is not given any explanation or assurance that things will improve.

Again for those who have visited developed nations where power outage is a rarity, coming back to India and facing such problems are indeed painful.

However, before celebrating, there are sure to be many a slip between the cup and the lip.

Those in power will either delay implementation or dilute the provision.
