Our Bureau

Kolkata , Nov. 28

EASTERN Railway will shortly bring out a book, Vibrant Edifice - Saga of Howrah Station, to commemorate 100 years of the present Howrah Station building, which became operational from December 1, 1905. The West Bengal Governor, Mr Gopal Krishna Gandhi, will release the book on December 1.

Authored by three senior officials of ER, Mr S. Majumdar, Mr D. Sengupta and Mr P. Kumar, the book will trace the history of the present building built on the basis of design and drawings by Mr Halsey Ricardo, London. The present building started with six platforms.

The highlight of the week-long centenary celebration will also include several programmes, including an exhibition on the station building.
