Floods: PM approves Rs 500-cr relief for TN

THE Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, has approved the release of Rs 500 crore to Tamil Nadu towards restoration and relief work in the flood-affected areas.

This amount is an immediate relief pending final assessment of the damage caused by the floods in October and November.

An official release said the Central team to assess the damage caused by the October floods in Tamil Nadu has submitted its report. This report is being processed.

It also said that another Central team to assess the damage in nearly 15 districts of Tamil Nadu due to floods caused by heavy rain between November 21 and 24 would be sent on Monday.
