Tea up at Coonoor on good demand

P.S. Sundar

Coonoor , Nov 28

WITH the offerings the lowest in the last three weeks, prices generally looked up at the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) auctions during the weekend. Demand for the plain, medium and better medium grades was good.

A volume of 10.76 lakh kgs was on offer against 13.21 lakh kgs the previous week. Of this, as much as 7.56 lakh kgs were of the leaf grades and only the balance 3.2 lakh kgs dusts.

The bright liquoring teas suffered for want of adequate demand. Many such teas lost up to Rs 3 a kg over the previous week. Only some quality conscious buyers from Gujarat and Maharashtra were seen supporting these grades. Withdrawals were noticed in these offers.

Among the corporate buyers, Hindustan Lever Ltd bought better medium and medium varieties. Among the exporters, Pakistan buyers were seen picking up clean black grades for around Rs 36 a kg.
