Gopalapuram open for movement of export containers

Our Bureau

Kochi , Nov. 28

THE State Government, in its continuing efforts to facilitate customers to increase their trade through the gateway port of Kochi, has given permission to move export containers through the Gopalapuram check post bordering Tamil Nadu.

The officials at the India Gateway Terminal Pvt Ltd said the opening of this check post for the clearance of export containers reduces the distance from the hinterland areas such as Madurai and Dindigul to Kochi by more than 75 km as also reduces transit.

It may be recalled that the State Government in October had provided a separate queue at Walayar check post to facilitate quick clearance of export containers moving for shipment through Kochi Port.

It is pointed out that easing of the bottleneck at Walayar will bring down the transit time for export containers originating from outside the State to Kochi Port.

A large quantity of export container comprising garments, coffee, machinery, tea etc are moving from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka into Kerala for export through Kochi.
