The channel hopes that satellite premier of Hindi movies would propel the growth of the Star Gold in the months ahead.

Kolkata , Nov. 28

STAR India Pvt Ltd has entered into an arrangement with Sahara One Motion Pictures whereby 64 films produced by the latter would be premiered (satellite TV premier and not theatre premier) on Star Gold within the next one year. About 12-15 of these movies would be telecast on Star Gold in December 2005 as part of the channel's Super Six initiative.

Talks were also being held with other production houses with a view to premiering movies produced by them on Star Gold.

Addressing a news conference here today, Mr Ajay Vidyasagar, Executive Vice-President of Star India Pvt Ltd, said satellite premier of Hindi movies and airing of special events would propel the growth of the Star Gold channel in the months ahead.

From a channel share of 3.3 per cent four months ago, Star Gold's channel share of all India viewership was currently at 4.7 per cent. With initiatives such as the Super Six, and others to follow, Star Gold was hopeful of increasing its channel share further to 5-5.5 per cent of all India viewership by mid-January 2006.

Mr Vidyasagar said that, in December 2005, Star would premier six blockbusters every weekend. The films that would be premiered include Main Hoon Na, Black, Swadesh, Hulchul, Ab Tak Chhapan, Fida, Kya Kool Hain Hum, Gayab. Events such as the IIFA Awards 2005, Amsterdam, and the Star Screen Awards, among others, would also be aired.

According to Mr Vidyasagar, for Star Gold, the Super Six initiative was expected to translate into a 400-500 per cent revenue growth in the month of December 2005 compared with November 2005.
