MCC focusing on digital memory card market

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad , Nov. 28

MCC Group, engaged in photo imaging and consumer electronics segment, has launched a range of digital flash memory cards targeting the growing digital lifestyle products such as cameras, mobile phones and laptops.

The company is also planning foray into overseas market and is in the process of identifying a strategic partner to tap the markets in Europe.

The Chief Executive Officer of MCC Group, Mr Ajay Mehta, told Business Line that India was seeing an unprecedented boom in consumer and electronics segment, which require high speed, compatible flash memory cards for devices such as cameras and mobile phones. About 40 per cent of mobile phones have slots for external storage. With even low-priced mobile handsets having capability for good quality digital cameras, and decreasing laptop and digital camera costs, the need for external storage or memory cards is set to increase. The company has a bouquet of flash memory cards that match different device applications.

In the country, the memory card industry is estimated at about 18,00,000 cards a year and assuming that a card is priced approximately Rs 1,00 per card, the value is about Rs 180 crore. However, the industry is growing at a fast clip with leading mobile phone manufacturers launching high end, multi-feature models at competitive prices.

"The market currently is dominated by cheap grey market products that do not have any guarantee. Therefore, we decided to source them from Taiwan and market them under the MCC brand leveraging the long-standing brand equity with the photo imaging industry. Unlike the grey market products, which do not have any guarantee, all MCC cards come with a lifetime guarantee, that is no questions are asked and the memory card is replaced, should a customer face any problem," he explained.

The MCC group is backed by a national retail infrastructure of 3,000 outlets across 16 cities. Mr Mehta said be it personal images or data that needs to be captured and stored these flexible memory cards help. MCC cards come with higher processing speed capability and are very handy for people on the move.
