New Delhi , Nov. 29

IN A bid to facilitate tourist arrivals into the country, the Government plans to outsource the issuance of visas by Indian Embassies, the Minister for Tourism, Ms Renuka Choudhury, said here on Tuesday.

Addressing the World Economic Forum meeting, the Minister said that in Paris alone there was a demand for issuing 1,000 visas a day that the Embassy was not able to handle.

"The Government is also working on a visa-on-arrival policy. The Home Ministry is looking into the issue," the Minister said and added that while the country was keen to welcome more tourists there was a need to ensure that the right kind of visitors arrive.

"Perhaps for the first time the Government and industry is talking in the same language that we need to have sustainable development of tourism and at the same time ensure that jobs are created for the people," Ms Choudhury said.
