Announcements Hyundai Motor India flags off first shipment to UK Our Bureau
Chennai , Nov. 30 HYUNDAI Motor India has sent its first shipment of 820 cars to the UK. It will export the Santro Xing branded as the Hyundai Amica, according to a company press release. This consignment will be the first shipment of right hand drive cars to the European Union. Hyundai Motor India exports left hand drive Santros to a number of European countries, including Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain and the Netherlands. Hyundai Motor India (HMI) achieved a milestone when it crossed the 2,00,000th car mark in exports this year. The release quoted Mr B.V.R. Subbu, President, Hyundai Motor India, as saying, "Though this is HMI's first consignment to the UK, our cars are already popular in other parts of the EU. In fact, Europe accounts for almost half of HMI's total exports. The UK order is yet another endorsement of the consistently high quality standards and global technology of our cars." The release said Hyundai had accounted for nearly 60 per cent of automobile exports this financial year. In another release, HMI said its second road show, the `World of Wheels' would begin its four-month long journey across the country on December 2. Nine cars from the Hyundai stable, including seven that were sold in the country will be on display. The World of Wheels will drive into 34 non-metro cities beginning with Ludhiana. As a special attraction for the show, Hyundai has shipped from Korea two premium cars, which are yet to be launched in India the super luxury sedan Azera and the sports coupe Tuscani. The release quoted Mr Subbu as saying the road show was part of the company's effort to connect with and reach out to the customers directly. The event will give the people in non-metro cities an experience of the entire range of Hyundai cars in India and some that may enter the country in the near future.
