`CERC taking steps to harmonise power distribution'

THE Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) is making all out efforts to harmonise power distribution in the country in coordination with the electricity regulatory commissions of different States, the Chairman of the organisation, Mr A.K. Basu, has said.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the 19th Meeting of Forum of Indian Regulators (FOIR), Mr Basu said theCERC was taking various steps to ensure that the price of electricity remained within reasonable limits.

As many as 17 licences had been issued to different organisations to be in the power business, so far, he said.

Inaugurating the two-day event, the Orissa Chief Minister, Mr Naveen Patnaik, said the challenge of providing electricity had to be faced as per the guidelines laid down in the National Electricity Policy. The National Forum of Regulators had a critical role to play in the current scenario, he said.
