EXPORTERS in Kerala have threatened to stop exports from the New Year if the State Government did not refund the input tax collected from them immediately.
The representatives of the All India Spices Exporters' Forum, Cochin Hill Produce Merchants' Association, Cochin Rubber Merchants' Association, India Pepper and Spice Trade Association, Tea Buyers' Association and Tea Trade Association of Cochin, which met here under the aegis of the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, have expressed anguish over the delay in refunding the input tax collected in the past eight months.
The exporters who have submitted their application for refund of VAT relating to exports on the forms prescribed along with the supporting documents have not received the refund so far, said Mr Balagopala B. Pai, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry, in a press release.
At a recent meeting, the commercial taxes authorities expressed inability to process the refund claims in the absence of proper procedures and guidelines from the Government.
