Kottayam , Dec. 2

SPOT rubber recorded smart gains on Friday. Covering groups and purchase agents continued to chase the narrow arrivals as international markets turned positive.

Main marketing centres were reported to be suffering from acute shortage of rubber as most of the market players and growers preferred to hold the stock expecting the bull phase to sustain on strong fundamental factors. Sheet rubber RSS 4 flared up sharply to Rs 66.25 a kg from Rs 65.50 both at Kottayam and Kochi.

NMCE rubber futures improved further with December contract ruling at Rs 66.43 (Rs 66.25), January contract at Rs 67.50 (Rs 67.31) and February contract at Rs 68.40 (Rs 68.27) per kg for RSS 4. The far month March was the only exception, which weakened to Rs 68.85 from Rs 68.96 a kg on Thursday. The January futures for the same grade firmed up to Rs 67.50 from Rs 66.58 a kg on MCX.

RSS 3 moved up to Rs 74.65 from Rs 73.98 a kg at Bangkok. Physical prices per kg were: RSS-4 Rs 66.25 (Rs 65.50); RSS-5 Rs 63.75 (Rs 63); ungraded Rs 62 (Rs 61.25); ISNR 20 Rs 64 (Rs 63.50); and latex 60% Rs 44.50 (Rs 44).
