Chinese fast food chain Mark Pi plans expansion

Deepak Goel

New Delhi , Dec. 2

NEW Delhi-based Trak Services, territory owners of Mark Pi chain of restaurants in India, plans to expand the chain from the present five outlets to 100 outlets in the next three years on a franchisee basis. Mark Pi is a chain of Chinese food restaurants around the world owned by Mr Mark Pi, a Chinese by origin.

Trak would focus on tier-II cities with 14 of the outlets slated to open in cities such as Kochi, Kanpur, Guwahati, Agra, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Amritsar and Jallandhar in the next six months. On this strategy, Mr Rohit Chand, Chairman, Trak Services, said, "These are virgin markets as far as Chinese fast food is concerned and the people are ready for it."

Mark Pi's USP, according to the company, lies in its proprietary recipes for sauces. Trak processes the sauces at its facility at Tilaknagar (Delhi-NCR) and would transport them from there to all Mark Pi restaurants in the country. It may also look at marketing the sauces to other restaurants at a later stage. Mr Chand said that the company was in the process of setting up a standardisation system for all its restaurants. After completing its expansion within the country, Trak would look at West Asia, he said.

The Indian operator is targeting a turnover of Rs 50 crore in the next three years as against a turnover of Rs 3.5 crore it clocked the previous year. Trak Services paid a one-time fee for obtaining the territory rights for the country and pays royalties to the global owner for each restaurant it opens.
