India server revenues rise 37 per cent in Q3

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Dec. 2

INDIA server revenues during the July-September quarter grew 37.4 per cent compared with the same quarter in 2004, according to research firm Gartner.

India accounted for 8.4 per cent of the total server revenues from the Asia-Pacific region, as against 6.6 per cent during the corresponding year-ago quarter.

Asic-Pacific server revenues in the third quarter grew 8.3 per cent and unit shipments grew 22 per cent compared with the same quarter last year.

The driving force was the strong growth in the x86 server space which contributed over 24 per cent of yearly growth in vendor revenue in Asia-Pacific.

It has been a good quarter for India as shipments and revenues both grew above 30 per cent year-on-year, though in line with the seasonality trend, Indian server market has reported sequential decline in overall shipments and revenue, said Gartner.

Intel-based servers are gaining popularity in the huge untapped SMB segment, though they contribute less in terms of revenue. Pricing pressure continues to be across the platforms. "Indian server market has reported strong growth during July-September 2005 as compared to last year primarily driven by significant momentum in RISC processor-based servers though x-86 servers have also contributed towards it," said Mr Naveen Mishra, Senior Analyst, Enterprise Systems Research, Gartner India.

"Among recent launches, blade servers have started gaining traction in India. Gartner expects that Indian server market will exhibit similar growth trends in near future as well."
