A people's President

Undoubtedly, Mr Abdul Kalam is the people's President.

He made use of every minute of the two days that he was in Tamil Nadu meeting the students of Loyola College, Chennai, VET, CMC, Vellore and Anna University and sympathising with those affected by the Chennai floods.

He also appreciated the work of the Tamil Nadu Government during the floods and assured all assistance to the State.

The best of the President came out when, despite his hectic schedule, he chaired a midnight doctoral committee meeting at the Raj Bhavan for Mr A. K. George, a research scholar, who had earlier registered with the President as his guide for his doctorate.

In doing so, Mr Kalam has set an example of how a guide should be and has proved that teaching is still a noble profession.
