Stock Markets Columns - Chat The sinewy vigour of the investor
Jogin played recorded videos of old cricket Test matches, as if to make up for the washed-out one in Chennai. Dakshinamoorthy kept calling his people to check if they were safe from floods. Sridevi went shopping for gold once more. And Khan buzzed the chat button. Stream in, fast! ** Kay: Hi, all! Chart patterns suggest that bullish trend will continue. Sri : November was a great month for markets! Dax: And I’m sure you celebrated it by… Jog: Buying more gold, as usual! LOL Kay: “To gild refined gold, to paint the lily,” as in King John! Sri : And to add wealth to my net worth, you’d add. :-| Jog: “I’ll hide my silver beard in a gold beaver,” as in Troilus and Cressida! Dax: Sensex climbed around 900 points. Jog: Pulling back from October fall. Kay: GDP growth figure provided enough fillip to the stock markets. Sri : Heard the FM? He’s said that Sensex is expected to rise further! Jog: However, indices showed indecisive movement. Dax: That reflects the players’ tendency, in my view. Kay: Last Friday, the upside movement lost its vigour. Jog: “The sinewy vigour of the traveller,” as in Love’s Labour’s Lost. Dax: Or, should it be, ‘of the investor’? :-) Sri : And fell towards the closing session, right? Kay: So, here is a caution! Dax: “Whate’er thou art, for thy good caution, thanks,” says Macbeth. Jog: Yet, if the market closes above 2,710 today… Dax: One could take deliveries back home, if I may suggest. Kay: “I make a broken delivery of the business,” as in The Winter’s Tale. Sri : Last week’s numbers, koi? Jog: Here! I’ve done some crunching. Siemens gained 8 per cent plus on November 28. Binani Ind made a gain of 5 per cent. Dax: So did NEPC India and UB Engg. Provogue Ind and Thermax earned a profit of about 3 per cent last Monday. Kay: Basant Agro was up 2 per cent. Ashok Leyland, Hindustan Zinc, Satyam Comp and Jet Airways closed last Monday... Sri : With a gain of 1 per cent plus. Pantaloon, TCS, Infosys, Ranbaxy, ABB and Tata Steel ended positive that day. This week? Kay: Expect frontline IT stocks such as Infosys to remain in the limelight. Sri : Nalco may continue its upward march. Dax: On the back of firm aluminium prices. Jog: Engineering sector stocks such as Esab, Thermax, Ador Welding and Greaves Cotton may continue to attract investor attention. Sri : Grindwell Norton may show up trend. Dax: As acquisition strengthens its position. Jog: Orient Abrasives may be marked up…
Kay: On the expectation of one-time dividend, perhaps! Sri : L&T likely to continue to be attractive, owing to flow of orders. Dax: Anybody saw Bata? Jog: Sporting a ‘new’ face, courtesy its involvement in real estate? Sri : True, the company is focussing on its spare land, they say. Kay: It may soon turn into an upscale neighbourhood near Kolkata. Jog: Bata stock has been making news, pushing Rs 178 right now. Sri : I’ve been watching Crisil. Dax: Stock moving from strength to strength? Kay: Although it has fallen from its recent high of Rs 1,700, it is still in the Rs 1,500-plus zone. Has S&P as a stakeholder. Jog: Phoenix Mills is an interesting case of a Rs 100-face value stock… Dax: Trading at over Rs 30,000! Sri : “We can afford no more at such a price,” as in Love’s Labour’s Lost. Kay: Listed only on BSE. Has some capital restructuring ahead of it. Sri : Liquidity is an issue, though. Worth checking out. Dax: Investments in Spanco Tele and Harig Crankshaft can be thought of. Jog: As bulk deals are happening in those counters. Kay: With automobile sector doing well, investors who can’t pick top counters such as Tata Motors or M&M can look at… Sri : Talbros Auto? It closed on Friday at Rs 105. Dax: PSUs may find some favour in the bourses after the Government suggested bonus shares issue from the reserves. Kay: “Use careful watch, choose trusty sentinels,” says King Richard III. ** Lee, with inputs from Nil, Nat, Mad, The and Sve. Send in your views to: Chat@TheHindu.co.in.
