RITES presents route norms on freight corridor

RITES, the consulting arm of Indian Railways, on Monday made a presentation on the dedicated freight corridor before the Railway Board here. The presentation primarily dealt with route specifications for the rail freight corridor. "RITES suggested the number of stations, route length and rail and road over-bridges that need to be built over the freight corridor route, among other things," said an official.

It is conducting a study on the proposed dedicated rail freight corridor for the Indian Railways and is expected to submit its report by this year-end. The Government has proposed setting up of dedicated freight corridor along the golden quadrilateral route.

In the initial phase, it has proposed construction of the corridor connecting Delhi with Mumbai and Delhi with Kolkata.
