Airlines Airbus, DAFZA sign 15-year lease contract Vimala Vasan
Abu Dhabi , Dec. 6 AIRBUS and the Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAFZA) has signed a 15-year lease contract for a 5,100-sq-metre site inside the free zone area at Dubai International Airport, which is to serve as the latest of the six Airbus Spares Centres worldwide. Dr Mohammed A. Al Zarouni, Director General of DAFZA, and Bernard Pain, Airbus' Head of Enterprise - Consumable Procurement, signed the contract, according to a report by the official Emirates News Agency, WAM. The report quoted an Airbus source as saying: "The Airbus A380 Spares Centre will host a large number of spare parts, including consignment equipment from participating Airbus original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), but will offer many functions beyond stocking spare parts." He added, "Accessibility and visibility of spares will be facilitated through a virtual warehouse service that Airbus is currently developing. The new spares centre will also provide state-of-the-art office space to host a Vendor Village for which Airbus is currently in discussions with 30 major suppliers." "The Dubai Spares Centre will be a strategic hub within the Airbus global warehouse network. It will boost the support infrastructure providing unlimited spares access to all Airbus customers worldwide. Additionally, it will be used as a provisioning platform for the Emirates A380 fleet." Dubai International Airport Apron is the most modern and fastest growing airport in the world, serving over 90 airlines flying to more than 136 destinations worldwide. The favourable location of the new Spares Centre allows direct access to Apron, thus ensuring maximum efficiency and speed in spares logistics. The Spares Centre is scheduled to become operational in April 2007 and at the same time as the entry-into-service of Emirates' first A380.
