Events Shipping meet in Chennai to discuss industry-related issues Our Bureau
Chennai , Dec. 6 AN international shipping conference will be held in Chennai during December 9-10 to discuss various industry-related issues, including need for manpower training and the new developments in shipping. The Union Shipping Secretary, Mr D. T. Joseph, will inaugurate the international conference `Opportunities Ahoy,' organised by the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) and The Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), said an official from the ICS (Madras) Branch. Some of the speakers at the conference include Mr Michael K. Abram, Chairman, ICS, London; Mr Bruce Ogilvy, Vice-Chairman, ICS; Mr Peter Grube of BIMCO and Mr Alan Phillips, Director General, ICS. Mr Tony Dixon, Director, Braemar Seascope; Mr S. Hajara, Chairman and Managing Director, Shipping Corporation of India; Mr L.B. Culas, Managing Director, Orient Express Line, Dubai; and Mr Suresh Joseph, CEO, India Gateway Terminals will also address the conference. Issues such as professionalism and ethical responsibility in the shipping industry, opportunities and threats from Asia and emerging world orders and the demand-supply gap in shipping will be covered. The conference will also analyse latest trends in shipping operations, commercial markets, port services, training, legal mechanisms and sustainable development. Containerisation for Indian exporters and liability issues will be discussed, the official said.
