Spot rubber prices steady

Our Correspondent

Kottayam , Dec. 6

SPOT rubber prices closed almost steady on Tuesday. Most of the buyers seemed hesitant to enlarge their commitments at higher levels even in the absence of quantity sellers. Covering groups and purchase agents preferred to stay on the sidelines waiting for revised quotations from the major manufacturers.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 ended flat at Rs 67.50 a kg both at Kottayam and Kochi. The transactions were low as most of the grades were rather inactive while ISNR 20 improved by 25 paise on moderate enquiries.

The rubber futures turned weak in NMCE against expectations possibly on profit booking at higher levels. The December contract was quoted at Rs 68.00 (Rs 68.86), January at Rs 69.10 (Rs 69.77), February at Rs 70.10 (Rs 70.94) and March at Rs 70.20 (71.15) per kg for RSS 4.

The January contract for RSS 4 was quoted at Rs 69.50 against Rs 69.99 a kg on MCX.

RSS 3 closed steady at Rs 75.15 a kg at Bangkok.

Spot prices a kg were: RSS-4: Rs 67.50 (Rs 67.50), RSS-5: Rs 65 (Rs 65), ungraded: Rs 63.50 (Rs 63.50), ISNR 20: Rs 65.25 (Rs 65) and latex 60%: Rs 45 (Rs 45).
