Cinema After the Sunset: Not worth the while Latha Venkatraman
Mumbai , Dec. 6 IF you want to see beautiful people leading a lazy life, playing tennis and sipping drinks (the kind of life we dream about), then you must watch the film, After the Sunset. Because there is not much acting to look out for. There is neither an interesting plot nor a convincing reason why the main protagonist goes after a prized diamond. Pierce Brosnan plays the role of Max Burdett, a jewel thief. Having stolen two of the three famous Napoleon diamonds, Max is enjoying his `retired' life at Paradise Island in the Bahamas with his partner Lola (Salma Hayek). Coincidentally, a touring cruise ship docks at Paradise Island. And inside the ship is the third Napoleon diamond as a part of an exhibition. Stan Lloyd (Woody Harrelson), an FBI agent who has been after Max, comes to Paradise Island because he does not believe that Max has retired. He is convinced that Max and Lola are plotting to steal the third Napoleon diamond. He teams up with local cop (Naomie Harris) to catch the duo. In the meanwhile a local gangster (Don Cheadle) is also plotting to steal this diamond. That's quite a straight story but the film goes through bylanes, twists and turns to tell us this story and yet nothing seems to happen. Directed by Brett Ratner (who made Rush Hour), the film has many dull moments. There is very little action and who cares about a diamond. The film would have had some relevance may be 20 years ago. Of course nobody needs to act as there is very little potential to exhibit one's acting prowess. Brosnan has an amused expression throughout the film. Salma Hayek spends her time looking good. The films releases on December 9 in India.
