ABB India bags Helen Keller Award

Our Bureau

Bangalore , Dec. 6

ABB India has been awarded the prestigious Helen Keller Award for its efforts in facilitating gainful employment for people with disabilities. The award, instituted by the National Centre for the Promotion of Employment for Disabled People, was presented by the Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Mr Arjun Singh, in New Delhi recently.

Besides employing disabled people, ABB in India supports an initiative with Prabodhini, a leading NGO in Nashik, where mentally challenged students are imparted vocational skills. Among other activities, they supply sub-assemblies for the company's medium-voltage switchgear plant located nearby. This is part of the company's `Project Roshni' initiative and is being extended to other locations.

As part of its Tsunami Rehabilitation Programme, ABB has partnered with Action Aid and the District Disability Network, Nagapattinam, to rehabilitate disabled persons.
