Drive to promote LPG among autos in Twin Cities

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Dec 6

THE State Transport Minister, Mr K. Laxminarayana, today said all new three-wheeler auto-rickshaws to roll out in the Twin Cities would be run on LPG cylinders.

Speaking to newspersons here on Tuesday, Mr Laxminarayana said the idea was to exhort the auto drivers to take to gas kit conversions. Even as they change, all the new autos would henceforth be run only on LPG cylinders, even though the Government had constraints. The Government has written to the Centre to sanction more LPG stations in the State.

Currently there were only 12 LPG stations in the city. Of the 68,000 autos running on the city roads, only 15,000 were converted to LPG.

Ten special enforcement teams were constituted last month to conduct intensive checks. The recent drive conducted by officials of Legal Metrology, Transport and Police departments has resulted in booking 2,434 cases against the auto rickshaw drivers plying with faulty meters and 125 vehicles were seized, the Transport Minister said.
