Knowing-acting gap

This is with reference to the Jottings column (Business Line, December 5), titled `The knowing-acting gap':

If every MLA, MP keeps his/her promise of improving the constituency and accordingly accounts for the funds used to this end, there would be little deficiency in our infrastructure. But the sad fact is theory and practice are far apart when it comes to implementing initiatives.

I fully agree with the author on the issue of the gap between knowledge and action. Indians believe very strongly in maintaining status quo.

We do not like to create disturbance knowing very well that if we do not act (the irony is we may even know what to do) the status quo may continue.

We like to learn things the hard way. Time and again nature teaches us harsh lessons but as we remain insensitive to them we stonewall.
