Need for advanced technology in steel making stressed

THERE is a need to enhance productivity with higher safety standards in steel-making by employing advanced technologies, Mr P.K. Bishnoi, Director (Finance), Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), said, during the inauguration of the two-day steel making operating committee meeting in Ukkunagaram on Tuesday. He said that VSP has made great strides during the past few years in this respect and was set to make further advances.

Mr K.K. Rao, Director - Operations, said that the country had come a long way in steel-making and was hopeful of achieving 100 million tonnes by 2020. He said that VSP was operating at 120 per cent capacity utilisation.

Mr K. Ayyappa Naidu, Director - Personnel, said the steel melt shop in the plant was functioning exceedingly well. Mr H.S. Chatwal, Director (Commercial), said that there was a need to develop new grades of steel to fully tap the market potential.

Mr P.K. Mishra, Executive Director (Works), Mr G. Shankar, General Manager (Steel), and Mr K. Keshari, Secretary of the committee, also spoke during the occasion.
