Mumbai , Dec. 8 TATA Motors said it has raised prices of medium and heavy commercial vehicles by 2-2.25 per cent on account of rising input costs. The price hike has come into effect from December 1, the company's spokesperson said. Raw material prices have been increasing, prompting other automobile manufacturers to mark up prices. The company on Thursday launched a sports utility truck that doubles as a pick-up and as an SUV (sports utility vehicle), pricing it in the range of Rs 5.8 lakh to Rs 7.9 lakh. Named as Tata TL 4x4, the vehicle is positioned as a lifestyle product, company officials said. "This is a vehicle for personal use as well as business ," said Mr Shyam Mani, Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), Commercial Vehicles Business Unit, Tata Motors. Tata Motors has been offering this product in the overseas market for the last six years. So far, 25,000 vehicles have been sold in South Africa, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and West Asia. "The Indian market is now ready for a product of this nature," Mr P.M. Telang, President - Light & Small Commercial Vehicles, Tata Motors, said. The Tata TL 4x4 has a 1,948-cc indirect injection, turbo-charged, inter-cooled diesel engine . The SUV is being offered with variants of a single cab and a double cab. It is available in silver, black and a combination of silver and black. The next couple of months will see the rollout of the vehicle across the country. The company would use the production facilities of Sumo and Safari to make these vehicles, Mr Telang said. "On this platform, we have a capacity of 90,000 vehicles a year; of this 65-70 per cent is being used at present," he said.
