New Delhi , Dec. 8

GAIL (India) Ltd has signed a memorandum of cooperation (MoC) with Natural Gas Hydrate (NGH) AS of Norway for developing and commercialising the synthetic natural gas hydrate storage and transportation technology.

In a statement issued here on Thursday, GAIL said the scope of the MoC includes feasibility studies of natural gas hydrate transport as an alternative to conventional pipeline and liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport.

As regards the possibility to set up a demonstration facility for this technology in India, the statement said it would be evaluated and the parties shall jointly co-operate in the development and commercialisation of this new technology.

In its efforts for pursuing new technology developments, GAIL has identified storage and transportation of natural gas in hydrate form for monetising stranded gas fields as priority area.
