Hardware H-P leads in Unix server market Our Bureau
BANGALORE: Hewlett-Packard said that it has reached the top slot in Unix server market in India, displacing Sun Microsystems, even while widening its Itanium portfolio by introducing the Unix blade servers. Mr Pallab Talukdar, Director for Enterprise Marketing and Alliances at H-P India, quoting IDC's latest server tracker report, said the company has captured 37.8 per cent market share in customer revenue in Unix server market in India during the third quarter of 2005. H-P also consolidated its premier position in Unix high-end server (74.3 per cent) and mid-range server (42.6 per cent) segments, he said. The company recorded a sequential growth of 42.6 per cent in Q3 2005 over Q2 2005 in terms of Unix revenues compared to a market growth of 8.2 per cent. In terms of server revenues, H-P grew by 83.6 in third quarter this year over the corresponding period last year. Sequentially, H-P's overall server revenue growth has been 23.1 per cent (3Q 2005 over 2Q 2005) against a market growth of 7.7 per cent for the same period.
