Tata Tele to build 3,000 more base stations, says CEO

THE Chief Executive of Tata Teleservices, Mr Darryl Green, believes his company is aggressive in the telecom sector. The company has brought up a pan-India service and will take further steps to become a more aggressive player in the market. This year, the company is building 3,000 base stations across the country to boost its coverage.

Excerpts from CNBC-TV18's exclusive interview with Mr Darryl Green:

Tata Teleservices is not known to be a very aggressive company in the telecom sector. The telecom sector is booming in this country. What is your take on that?

I think we are a very aggressive company. We rolled out around 12 circles in about two years. We brought up a pan-India service, and we are taking further actions to be aggressive in the market place. We have reached a point, where we can bring very interesting and revolutionary services across the country.

What sort of investments are you looking at?

In building base stations across the country, there is a big capital expense.

This year we are building another 3,000 base stations to boost our coverage so that we are on par with the other carriers in the country. We are also investing in marketing and bringing in revolutionary and good handsets.

Are you looking at an IPO for Tata Teleservices to raise capital?

No, we are looking at gaining as much market share as possible, and we are looking at satisfying customers.

The Tata group has its own strategies for raising money. As a whole, the group is doing well.
