IA to sign contract for new fleet soon

INDIAN Airlines will sign the contract for its new fleet "in the next few days" and the first deliveries from Airbus will come towards end-2006, the Civil Aviation Secretary, Mr Ajay Prasad, told newspersons at the Aerodrome India 2005 on Wednesday.

The deal for 43 aircraft is worth around Rs 9,000-10,000 crore. The price has been finalised and contract details are being worked out.

As for Air India's aircraft purchase plan from Boeing, Mr Ajay Prasad said, "Price fixation and negotiation have taken place and next week we are going to the Cabinet for the approval of the acquisition." AI has chosen Boeing to deliver 68 aircraft in a multi-crore deal.
