Bangalore , Dec. 9

FRENCH cellular phones major, Sagem expects to pick a significant pie of the Indian market, a top group executive said.

Sagem has quietly sold five lakh pieces since it launched operations two years ago. "The Indian market is expanding. Our plan is to further enhance our presence in India," the official told Business Line.

Sagem has so far launched half a dozen phones of different prices through its distributor, Cenzer Industries, and mounted moderate promotion campaigns in major cities such as Bangalore. The response in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai has been good and the distribution network will be expanded gradually, the official said.

Outside France, Sagem is popular in China, Brazil and Latin American markets, another official said.
