Education Info-Tech - Outsourcing Education process outsourcing: The next big business opening? Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Dec. 9 AFTER the influx of technology-related process outsourcing, education process outsourcing (EPO) is also making inroads across the country. If what Highpoints Learning Inc, with its development centre in Hyderabad, is managing now is anything to go by, this could well emerge as the next business opportunity. The Chief Executive Officer of Highpoints Learning Inc, Mr Jeetan Singh, said the company has developed an innovative mapping engine that helps generate content for e-Learning. Having put in nearly three years of work in this area, we are tasting rapid success, he added. The company has signed up for some government projects in the US and is in the process of providing services in Spain, South Korea and New Zealand. From the next academic year, Highpoints Learning Inc will launch content-based services in India for CBSE and ICSE exams and other tests. A maths problem sparks a business idea: It all started as a personal necessity about a decade ago, when a teenage girl was unable to sort out a maths problem and had to go out to a tutor. That was when the co-founder, Mr Gopikrishna Mamidipudi, hit upon the idea of creating content that can be easily accessed over the Internet. About 70 people are working for the company in Hyderabad and are creating maths content that can be used anywhere. "Being a company co-promoted by the founders of Datamatics Corporation, there is no problem of funding and we are also not looking at any funding immediately. Given the base we have now created, we expect to rapidly grow to a 300-member team next year. "We would have invested about $12 million to $14 million in terms of huge content that we have created so far. I wish a day had more hours, as we simply cannot keep pace with the requirements," Mr Singh said. Highpoints has been founded by the alumni of IIT and the Indian Institute of Science. The company provides Web-based education services to over 100,000 registered users and 5,000 teachers, and it also allows access to its libraries. Highpoints is now in the process of scouting for strategic partners. It s has recently provided its content on a Google site and is in the process of partnering with AOL, Mr Singh said.
