Paramount Air to shift base to Chennai

Our Bureau

Chennai , Dec. 9

PARAMOUNT Airways, which began operations on October 19 out of Coimbatore, will shift its operational base to Chennai, subject to allotment of parking bays by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), according to Mr M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Paramount Airways.

He said that going forward, Chennai would be a better option, as there would be more traffic out of the city. Paramount would be able to offer connectivity to international passengers too. In addition, the company would be able to attract better talent in Chennai.

Paramount currently operates one Embraer aircraft, and has placed orders for four more. Mr Thiagarajan today said that the company intended to acquire 15 more Embraer jets.

Each aircraft costs around Rs 148 crore, and Paramount could get into a leasing arrangement too.

He said that a firm order would be placed when the second aircraft is inducted into the fleet in a fortnight.

The airline, which has an all business class 70-seat capacity, now has plans to offer two-class configuration with First and Business class.

He said the airline would be equipped with in-flight entertainment for each seat.

Currently, the airline operates eight daily flights connecting New Delhi, Kochi and Chennai with Coimbatore.
