Finolex board okays fluorescent lamps project

THE board of directors of Finolex Cables Ltd has approved a project for the manufacture of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) atthe company's existing facilities at Urse, Pune.

Mr P.B. Parasnis, Director Finance, told Business Line that CFL was the latest product to be added to its armoury of products.

These lamps could save up to 80 per cent energy as against an incandescent lamp.

He said the project cost is estimated at Rs 18 crore. The production is expected to start within six to nine months.

Finolex would manufacture CFLs in the range of 5W-26W and three colour temperatures of 2700K, 4000K and 6500K.

To be produced in retrofit and non-retrofit versions, these lamps will have a life expectancy of about 6,000 to 8,000 hours.

The company has decided to manufacture CFLs as part of its expansion strategy.
