Adopt VAT in all States: Assocham

NEW DELHI: The Associated Chamber of Commerce and Industry of India has appealed to all political parties to take decision on value added tax (VAT) purely on economic considerations and adopt VAT by January.

The chamber is of the view that if non-VAT States adopt the tax, there will be a surge in the tax revenue collection of these States.

The chamber also believes that adoption of VAT by all States would lead to phasing out the Central sales tax and generate tax revenue to the order of Rs 75,000 crore.
