Announcements Marketing - New Products & Services Skoda to hike car prices in Jan; launches Laura Our Bureau
New Delhi , Dec. 13 SKODAAUTO India has said it would hike the price of its cars by up to Rs 30,000 from January owing to increased freight costs. "The price of 12 models of cars from SkodaAuto India will go up between Rs 15,000 and Rs 30,000," the Managing Director, Mr Imran Hassen, told reporters here at the launch of its latest model `Laura' on Tuesday. He, however, said the hike in prices would not be applicable to the newly launched `Laura', which comes with a price tag of Rs 16,81,081 (ex-showroom Delhi). Mr Hassen said despite the planned price hike, the company's products would remain competitive in their respective categories. He said the company planned to launch two new versions of its Octavia range in January and March. "We would continue to bring in new technologies and keep introducing products," he said. On Laura, which is placed in the upper luxury segment, Mr Hassen said Skoda was looking at clocking about 4,000 units in the next 12 months. Based on the A5 platform, the latest model comes with six-speed transmission powered by an 1896 cc diesel `Pumpe Duse' Engine. In its four years of operations in India, Skoda has so far sold 25,000 units, he said, adding the company would try to increase its market share with a series of launches next year. The company is also taking part in Auto Expo 2006, in January in the Capital.
