A fish vendor filling a basket at his outlet in Kochi. Prices of fish have increased by about 40 per cent compared with the last season despite projections of lower demand during the current festive season.

Fall in the arrivals of fish and reluctance of mechansied boat owners to set sail are the major reasons for the increase in prices.
