Supply Chain Management Increase in haulage charges to cost Concor Rs 50 cr Mamuni Das
New Delhi , Dec 14 THE recent increase in haulage charges imposed by the ways on Container Corporation of India (Concor) is likely to hit the company by about Rs 50 crore this fiscal unless it passes the hike on to its customers. Haulage charges are paid by Concor to the Railways for using its infrastructure such as tracks and signalling systems. The Railways has imposed an across-the-board 15 per cent increase in haulage charges for Concor. The increase is effective from December 1. This, in turn, is likely to result in an increase in tariffs charged by Concor to its customers. When contacted, Concor officials refused to comment on the issue. In 2004-05, Concor paid Rs 985.84 crore to the Railways for using its infrastructure. The company registered a turnover of Rs 1,996.96 crore in that year. Owing to a five per cent increase imposed in April this year, Concor is likely to pay out about Rs 49 crore more to the Railways compared to last year's haulage charges. Thus, on an annual basis, the organisation may end up paying over Rs 1,000 crore to the Railways on account of using its infrastructure.
