East Asia summit

It is pleasing to note that one of the commitments of the draft declaration of the East Asia Summit at Kuala Lumpur is to create the world's largest economic zone.

The member countries will promote development, financial stability, energy security, economic integration and growth in East Asia.

One hopes the East Asia Summit will bring greater unity among the participating countries in peaceful activities making the region, home to a large number of the world's poor, prosperous.

Hopefully, the deliberations at the summit will make it possible for an equitable distribution of economic growth not only among the countries but also within them.
